Eugen Jochum(1902-1987) conducts Anton Bruckner Symphony No 5 & Te Deum

EUGEN JOCHUM IN BENEDICTINE MONKS, OTTOBEUREN

Benedictine Monks, Ottobeuren, Germany, 30 Mai 1964. Eugen Jochum conducts the Amsterdam Concertgebouw in
Bruckner’s Fifth Symphony, a gigantic musical cathedral and a masterpiece of counterpoint. ‘Everything is prayer,
everything is contemplation, everything is a state of grace.’ With this concert Eugen Jochum was given the reference
for this ‘Katholische Sinfonie’ here completed by the Te Deum acclamation. His final musical testament in the form of a
symphony.
