JOHANNES BRAHMS (1833-1897) - PIANO TRIO No 2 Op.87 & Op posth. - Guarneri Trio

In stock

The Trio in A, imbued with astonishing juvenile ardour, is obviously the work of a pianist writing for himself in his Sturm und Drang period. Featuring a gushing, overabundant thematic profusion, it is quite close to the style of the first version of the Trio in B, Op.8. The Trio in C appears as a model of balance between great melodic richness and a lofty mastery of form and freedom of inspiration. Here, the Phantasie spirit remains, but a post-Beethovenian vigour gives density to a discourse that is successively meditative, pathetic and rustling ‘with nocturnal whispers’, coming to a close in full light on a robust peasant dance. Most likely coming from the same pen, probably some thirty years apart, here are an amazing youthful attempt and its masterful ‘fair copy’.

Czech Chamber Music (1872-1910) : Forester, Novak, Janacek, Fibich - Kinsky Trio Prague

In stock

An original programme of post-Smetana chamber music re-inserting Janáček into the midst of his contemporary competitors who occupied the Czech scène up until the last world war. Naturalism (Fibich), spiritual fidelity to the ethic of Dvořák (Foerster) and uncompromising patriotism (Novák) form a sharp contrast to the storyteller, composer of the ‘Kreutzer Sonata’ Quartet, forgetting the law of counterpoint, as in Pohádka whose centennial we commemorate here.

ALEXANDER BORODIN (1833-1887) : CHAMBER MUSIC - Vol.III

In stock

The young Kinsky Trio continues the tradition of the Czech chamber music school: that of the Suk and Guarneri Trios as much as that of the famous quartets: the Vlach and Smetana yesterday, today the Zemlinsky… and Pražák. Under the leadership of Pavel Hůla, primarius of the latter, these ‘sins of youth’ again reveal their spontaneity and native Russian lyricism, souvenirs of afternoons of chamber music in which Borodin, an amateur cellist, participated in Saint Petersburg and Europe.

RUSSIAN PIANO TRIOS : Rimsky-Korsakov & Anton Arensky - Kinsky Trio Prague

In stock

An original coupling of quasi-contemporary Russian chamber works, contrasting a master with one of his former students and admirer of Tchaikovsky or, in other words, the nationalists with the cosmopolitan new generation. Both trios, in minor mode, nonetheless lie within the splendour of a waning Romanticism in which the keyboard is king, in the lineage of Brahms for the composer of Scheherazade, Mendelssohn and the Slavic lyric tradition for Arensky.

Mozart - Weber : Chamber works with clarinet

In stock

This CD associates three clarinet chamber masterpieces, two that Mozart dedicated to Anton Stadler, his ‘brother’
in his masonic odge, including the famous ‘Skittle trio’ – which is said to have been written within no more than
the time of a skittle game – and the Quintet, as the forthcoming concerto K 622, exploits all the resources of the
instrument, particularly its low register, and offers, in the second larghetto, one of the most beautiful nocturnal
songs ever written, sublime effusion of melody played by the clarinet over strings con sordino. A third one is offering
Weber’s Quintet dedicated to Heinrich Josef Bärmann, a fantastic German soloist and composer.
